From 1912 to 1925, The Gazette de Bon Ton arrived in fashionable French homes every month. The stylized drawings of Barbier, Lepape, Bakst and Dufy, showed women how to dress. As corny as it might sound, we think you’ll say “OLE!!” as you view this these vibrantly colored posters from the 1920’s, celebrating the music, dance and festivals of Spain. Many of the Christmas cards of the 1920’s combined the simplified forms of early Art Deco, with the traditional images often used in the Arts & Crafts and late Victorian styles. We think this group of 8 different, vividly colored cards (appr 6” X 8”, w/envelopes), will take you back to a gentler time.

WCR80 - Art Deco Christmas Cards - $12.95

It’s been a few years since we offered holiday cards created by our friends at Saturn Press, but we’re happy to have them back. They use a vintage letterpress machine to create individual pieces of art. The designs are adapted from period originals, but have a timeless quality about them. The little girl from 1920, with a big red bow in her hair, sits on a big C for Christmas. The image is simple, yet evocative. (“May this Christmas be a happy one”). The leaping deer with poinsettia leaves and a candle, sends you “Greetings and Best Wishes for the coming year…” The 5” X 7” cards come 10 to a box.

There must be something very funny about a group of people on a curving wrought iron staircase, because these two cards tickle our funny bone. The tuxedoed Waiters (1926) with champagne buckets in hand, send their “Cheers” for the new year. The chorus boys and girls (1930) (blank inside), wish you a Laffy New Year. Black and white cards (5” X 7” come 12 to a box.

George Barbier and Georges Lepape were two of the most famous and widely recognized French Deco fashion illustrators. Here are two picture perfect designs in a 6” X 4” size, (box contains 10 each), oh so fitting to be your most fashionable holiday cards.

WCR83 - French Deco Fashion Holiday Cards - $16.95

 

Designed by the late 19th century Swiss illustrator, Eugene Samuel Grasset, this Arts & Crafts style image has the feel of a vintage woodcut. Though muted in overall color, the woman’s orange dress stands out as she hurries through the snow. Contains 12 cards with envelopes and a simple “Season’s Greetings” inside.

We rarely offer designs that are THIS Victorian, but we couldn’t resist.

This beautifully designed, book-shaped keepsake box contains 20 blank cards with 4 different Victorian Santas on them, all tied together with a satin ribbon. Each 3-1/2” X 5” card can be used as a mailed greeting (matching envelopes) or as a gift card to attach to your presents.

Our favorite New York City Art Deco icons have been interpreted as beautiful glass ornaments. Made the old-fashioned way in Europe- individually blown and hand painted - each ornament takes days to complete. We treasure the Chrysler and Empire State Buildings and you can too, by making them a part of your holiday celebration this year (and for future generations). And let’s not forget the good old woody station wagon bearing presents for all good children. Each ornament is about 5” high with a hanging loop and comes in a red presentation box.

During the early part of this century, most toy cars, trucks, planes, boats and robots were made of tin. These replicas (the wheels move) are made mini-sized to be the perfect nostalgic ornaments for your holiday tree or to just sit on a shelf. (not suitable as toys for young children). Includes one each atomic robot, spaceship and ocean liner. Each ornament (appr 3” long) comes in its own decorative box.
